One year in the fall I got to drive around the state of Maine photographing 25 different farmers and producers for Rising Tide Co-op. It was one of my favorite jobs ever and it gave my 1994 volvo a chance to really shine. These people are golden. They work so hard to make good food and inadvertently make the world a better place, with seemingly no ego whatsoever. In fact, usually when I show up at a small Maine farm for a photoshoot, they are wearing a shirt or hat with a different business’ logo on it. Support these gems, buy local food whenever you can.

Clint, Suzanne, and Cadence, Shisito the cat and Luna Lovegood the lizard all live in a sweet house in a sweet town and they are all deeply, truly, authentically, and undeniably beautiful. It’s a serious privilege to get to photograph these beings.

If you’re going to get married at a working farm in rural Minnesota and offer Amish buggy shuttles for guests as well as a bouncy house, and you want me to photograph your wedding, the answer is yes. I love you Megan and Mike.

Melissa and Corky are so many good things at once, I get teary eyed just thinking about this day. They are strong, beautiful, eager to connect, loyal to their communities, and put their love for each other and their family first. They brought a lightness and a humor to each moment of this day, despite there being a recent tragedy that shocked them just that morning. They brought their families together, mixed all the love and joy with all the grief and moved through this day with unbelievable grace and authenticity. You two are gorgeous all the way through.

Susan Bickford is a magic maker, and I feel so lucky to have been invited into her world. She created a truly innovative and breathtaking annual artist retreat that culminates in an experimental performance and foraged feast, and then video installation. In 2017 she hosted it at her home, on the reversing falls in Nobleboro, Maine.

Lauren and Tommy, you guys are so sweet, so in love, so gracious and full of life. And now you have a baby!??!?! I wish you both the absolutely, most glittery, most peaceful, most fulfilling and brightest and love filled best.

I got a call one day from a friend who’s house had just burnt down. She said of course she was devastated, but that when she walked into what was left of her home, so much of what was left inside beautiful in an alien sort of way. She asked if I could document this charred and tragic still life, and I am forever amazed at her gorgeous mind - to see the beauty amidst such loss.

Every single person in this family is incredibly talented, brilliant, kind, peaceful, hilarious, and beautiful. But the thing I appreciate most is how entirely at peace with themselves they are. Spending an afternoon with the Gottliebs was like a big pot of chamomile tea for my soul. Gottliebs - if you’re reading this, maybe you should monetize this somehow?

Laurel raises sheep for fleece, meat, and pelts, and mixes and matches over ten different breeds to create the most fantastic sheep for her purposes. She has a couple of border collies that are kept sharp and quick with near-daily herding practice, and the mutual respect and admiration she shares with her creatures is beautiful. They called to inquire about wedding photography, but then within minutes we realized we had mutual friends all over the country, I had tried to hire his mom as my midwife, and they were next door neighbors to the dairy farm where I worked for three years.
